CA-50 election just 34 days away. Elect Busby!

Wed May 03, 2006 at 10:31:53 AM PDT

It's time to start banging the drums (again) for Francine Busby. There are just 34 days left until the election in CA-50, a congressional district which we can turn blue. Francine is now in a run-off election against Republican lobbyist Brian Bilbray. Both volunteer and financial support is needed to win this seat and we need to re-start those efforts immediately. The Busby campaign has  successfully weathered a $1.4 million ad buy by the NRCC and despite these many false and misleading ads, the Busby campaign has not only endured, but has managed stay very close in the polls, even in the middle of the barrage of attack ads.
It seems that Bilbray is not all that popular among many in his own Republican party. You see, it turns out that this special election in CA-50 is also being held on the same day as the state's primary elections and Bilbray may indeed be facing primary challenges including one from conservative Eric Roach, who Bilbray barely beat in the April 11th election.  So much for party unity. You can read more about the Republican party fracture in CA-50 in a diary by reid fan.

Brian Bilbray has tried very hard to hide his career as a lobbyist from the voters but Francine is exposing him for what he is. She is strongly in favor of ethics reform in Congress and I've listed her proposals below:

Changing the Way Washington Works by Fighting for Real Ethics Reform

No Gifts from Lobbyists
No Privately Funded Congressional Travel
No Secret Meetings with Lobbyists
No Anonymous Appropriations
No Outside Financial Relationships with Government Contractors
No Exceptions

Francine has released two ethics proposals that are tougher than any currently introduced by any member of Congress from either party. Her CLEAN House Act would dramatically limit the influence of government contractors and lobbyists on congressional decision making. Her CLEAN Office proposal would establish the toughest standards for interaction with lobbyists of any of the 535 congressional offices. Her proposal is simple: no trips, no gifts, no secret meetings, no outside financial relationships and no exceptions.

Francine Busby is a very strong Democratic candidate in a seat formerly held by corrupt Republican convict Randy "Duke" Cunningham. She's been very successful in terms of fundraising, has developed a very competent ground game and does an excellent job responding to the cowardly Republican attack ads. Let's do all we can to send this fine candidate to the House of Representatives.

How you can help:
Contribute to the Busby campaign
Volunteer and help on the ground
